If you're already pulling the intake apart to install a delete kit, this is the time to replace the seals that have been sitting there heat-cycling for the last decade.
Could you reuse the old ones? You can try...
Should you? You'll hate yourself!
This kit includes the oil cooler, intake, throttle valve, swirl flap, and intake manifold seals you need to put everything back together properly without relying on a collection of flattened rubber that has spent its entire life being baked between aluminum castings.
The goal is simple: do the job once.
When the intake is off, you already have access to a pile of seals that normally aren't worth replacing individually because getting to them is the hard part. Replacing them now helps prevent oil leaks, coolant leaks, boost leaks, and the particularly enjoyable experience of taking everything apart again because a $6 seal decided it had served long enough.
Oil Cooler / Fluid Seals
Intake Seals
Intake Manifold Seals
That's 20 seals total, covering all sealing points disturbed during intake and oil cooler service.
Most of these seals are inexpensive.
The labor required to reach them is not.
Once rubber seals have been compressed and exposed to years of engine heat, oil vapor, coolant, and pressure cycles, they don't magically return to factory condition when you remove the part. Some look fine right up until the engine is back together and they aren't.
Installing fresh seals during reassembly removes one more variable from the job and gives you a much better chance of putting the tools away when you're finished instead of leaving them nearby "just in case."
If you're installing a delete kit, servicing the oil cooler, removing the intake manifolds, or generally excavating the top of your 3.0 TDI, this is the seal kit you want sitting on the bench before you start reassembly.
Fresh parts go back together with fresh seals. Volkswagen already gave you enough reasons to take the intake apart once.
